35th ‘CORAL ANNIVERSARY’ AGM, MARKET AND SOCIAL WEEKEND

The Committee have great pleasure in inviting all members to our very “special” anniversary weekend. We do hope as many as possible will come and join us in this milestone year for the Carnival Glass Society.
* Friday evening: Join us for a celebration drink and nibbles for the unveiling of
part of The Anthony & Maureen Ward fabulous collection of carnival glass (the glass will also
be on display on the Saturday afternoon)
* Saturday morning: Annual General Meeting, followed by members’ priority glass sales
* Saturday afternoon: Carnival Glass Market ‘by the sea’ and viewing the Ward collection
* Presentation by Kathi and Galen Johnson
* Special ‘Coral Anniversary Cake’ cutting
* Special 35th Anniversary Raffle drawn for stunning blue Rose Garden letter vase
* Saturday Evening – Dinner followed by the ‘Coral Stakes Racing’ evening - winner

FRIDAY EVENING PROGRAMME
This year we shall be ‘ringing the changes’ with the format by having a private members’ viewing and reception to unveil the Anthony and Maureen Ward Glass Collection. Members will be free to make meal arrangements earlier in the evening or day and then gather in the bar area at 7.30pm where there will be complimentary Prosecco and canapés for all to enjoy.
Once people have gathered, we shall ‘unveil’ the collection and make a short presentation on the glass that is shown. Members will then be free to look at the glass, ask questions and generally enjoy getting together for this auspicious social occasion.
As this year we are celebrating our 35th ‘Coral’ anniversary – we have decided on a “Nautical” theme i.e. “Coral” By the Seaside! Members are welcome to enter into the spirit of the weekend by dressing as appropriate for the seaside plus decorating their stalls accordingly (optional). So let your imagination take over! The stall and stall holder voted as favourite will receive a splendid certificate for their efforts!
Tea, coffee and cold drinks are available for purchase throughout the day from conference bar plus members requiring lunch can order (before 10.00 a.m) for delivery to the Conference Centre during the lunch break.
We are delighted to announce that Kathi & Galen Johnson will be with us again. They have kindly agreed to bring over copies of the Dave Doty “Field Guide to Carnival Glass”. Orders must be placed in advance at a cost of £16.50 each (with £1.50 going to the Society). Collection at the AGM (if you wish to buy but are unable to attend the AGM please email [email protected]).
Special Raffle for a stunning 5.5 inch blue Brockwitz Rose Garden vase. This is a great opportunity! You could be the lucky winner! Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day, and the draw will take place at the conclusion of the day.
SATURDAY EVENING DINNER (6.45 for 7.15 pm)
Dinner will be held in the conference centre. The bar will be available throughout the evening. Wine for dinner can be ordered either at Reception or at the bar prior to dinner. Please remember to bring your dinner menu selection with you. Easy listening background music will be played throughout the meal – by popular request this will be provided by committee member Karl Sumpter who made such excellent choices last year!!
“THE CORAL STAKES” SEA HORSE RACING - WINNER TAKES HOME A LOVELY
FENTON CORAL BOWL - VOLUNTEER ‘SEA HORSE’ JOCKEYS REQUIRED
After dinner there will be ‘Sea Horse Racing’ (mermaids and mermen where are you?!). The winner receives a lovely Coral Bowl, kindly donated by Trudy & Steve Auty.
A reminder of how the game works will be given on the day. Suffice to say it involves giant dice, hobby horses, “race cards” in a variety of colours and an improvised ‘race track’!! We need volunteer jockeys so please do register on the administration form – or you can be a dice thrower on the day. Jockeys can bring items to decorate their horses in a “Nautical Theme” if they wish!
There will also be informal music for those who want to listen or dance (again provided by our own Karl Sumpter). Quiet seating area is also available to chat with friends.
Enjoy a farewell coffee with the committee and friends, followed by a stroll down to the Market Harborough Sunday Antiques Market.

The Carnival Glass Society thrives on the support of its members and your active participation in this year’s AGM will be much appreciated. There are many ways in which you can help:
Straw Draw: Gill Handle has kindly agreed to organise this for 2017, every even number wins! Please advise Gill if you can contribute and also bring the items on the Saturday morning already wrapped (best newspaper is fine!). Please contact her via our Contact Page.
Raffle Prizes: The committee will be donating prizes to the raffle table again this year. However if you have any unwanted gifts or items that you would like to donate then that will be much appreciated (good quality of course!!) If you can help then please let Phyllis know.

Your assistance for Saturday would be very welcome. A range of help is required to assist with raffle tickets, straw draw, plus help with various other tasks throughout the day. Please let me know whether you can help out.

It has been an extremely busy year for the Committee. We are really looking forward to welcoming our members – your attendance and enjoyment of this weekend makes all our efforts worthwhile. So do come if you are able, to make this yet another special year.

ABOUT THE THREE SWANS HOTEL, MARKET HARBOROUGH
For those who have not visited the Three Swans Hotel, it is a delightful coaching inn set in the pretty town of Market Harborough, Leicestershire LE16 7NJ. Tel: 01858 466644. There is parking for 100 cars with overspill parking available nearby. For those using SatNav, I am informed that LE16 9AA will bring you to the hotel car park quicker. Please also be aware that there is sometimes a barrier across the carpark entrance however you can lift this manually to enter. The hotel is now under a new management team plus the car park has been resurfaced and bays are all nicely marked out. The restaurant is refurbished, the flower displays are beautiful and the whole outside area is a convivial place to relax.
Rooms are still available so if you have not yet booked – now is the time to do so. Please remember to quote the CGS to obtain our special rates:
£75 for a standard room (plus £20 for an executive room)
Additional £10 per person for breakfast which is optional (please advise hotel when booking)
